This season, skin is bare, lips are bold and eyes are framed with fine, feathery lashes.
Glowing Skin Trend
Forget the heavy masks of makeup, embrace your skin's natural beauty and dare to go bare. In order to achieve the "no makeup" look, nourish your skin from the inside out. Start each day with a tall glass of lemon water. Lemon is full of antioxidants. It’s an excellent source of vitamin C which helps repair damaged skin and helps prevent fine lines and blemishes. One important factor in beautiful skin is hydration. My Italian great-grandmother attributed her ageless skin to religiously applying extra virgin olive oil to her skin every evening. Another option is coconut oil. Used by Pacific Islanders for centuries, this oil is an abundant source of fatty acids that are uniquely formed to deeply moisturize, hydrate and condition the skin. If using oil isn’t your thing, moisturize your skin with a medium weight cream, which not only nourishes your skin, but protects it as well. Try this one: Caudalie Anti-Wrinkle Protect Cream SPF 20 (details here). Follow up with a light weight eye cream like Nuxe Anti Fatigue Moisturizing Eye Cream (details here). It’s enriched with Blue Everlasting Flower extract to help reduce undereye dark circles and puffiness. Now that your skin is hydrated and protected, instantly neutralize any imperfections with NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (details here). As a Makeup Artist for over 12 years, I am constantly on the search for the best concealer. This one is crease-proof, long wearing, and blurs any imperfection flawlessly and naturally. After concealer, apply a light dusting of Benefit Dandelion Brightening Finishing Powder (details here) to the apple of cheeks for a healthy, radiant glow.
Feathery Lashes Trend
"If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then lashes are the shutters". One simple, yet effective way to brighten your face and eyes is to apply a simple coat of mascara. One of my pet peeves as a Makeup Artist is thick, clumpy, overdone mascara. Instead, try this technique for long, feathery, separated and lifted lashes. To begin, take a tissue and remove any excess mascara from the wand. Apply Benefit They're Real Mascara (details here) from root to tip and follow up with a small comb to separate the lashes. Lastly, use Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler (details here) to lift your feathery long lashes. For extra definition, apply a water resistant gel liner like Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner (details here) to top water line.
Bright and Bold Lip Trend
One beauty product that every Parisienne girl never leaves home without is lip colour. It’s also one product that can instantly and easily transform your look. What’s the trick to pulling of a bright lip? Balance. The bold lip trend of summer works best when paired with an almost bare face. Here are a few of my favorites: Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Passion (details here). This quintessential Parisienne red is enriched with shea butter and vitamin E to soften lips. The best way to wear this highly pigmented color is to pat the color on the lips either with your finger tip or a brush. Then blot with a tissue. If red is too bold for you, try a pink based coral, like Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Color in Coral Pink (details here). This innovative lipstick offers a soft, creamy shine with a hint of this season hottest color. If you’re daring enough to wear fuchsia, try MAC Matte Lipstick in Be Silly (details here) from the new Flamingo Park Collection. This gorgeous color was seen at the Marchesa Spring 2016 Ready - to -Wear Collection. Tangerine is also one of those colors that says 'summer'. Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Lipstick in Geneva (details here) is the perfect shade to wear to your next visit to Saint Tropez.
Et voila, my best picks of the crop for summer 2016.
